This week, 9 citizens of Gold Canyon are running for mayor.  They are Kiran, Anna, Partha, Bert, Elizabeth,
Andrew, Tyler, Sydney and William.   Anyone who runs for mayor is a very brave person.  It takes courage
to ask people to vote for you, so I
compliment anyone who decides they are going to try to run for mayor!

In this election, the candidates will tell the people in Gold Canyon what they
would do if they became the mayor.  They will have to think hard this week
about what things they want to do in our city.  There will be 6 issues on which
they will have to decide what they think should be done.  Here are the 6 issues:

ISSUE 1:        What new building or thing or should the Gold Canyon City Council
spend its money on?  If you could think of one building to spend money on,
what would it be?

ISSUE #2:        Should we have taxes in Gold Canyon?  If so, how much would you
charge each person who lives in Gold Canyon? Would you charge everyone the
same amount?

ISSUE #3:  What would you do about the man who polluted the Gold Canyon
River?  What law would you pass?

ISSUE #4: We have no laws in Gold Canyon yet.  Soon the City Council will be
deciding which laws we should have.  What two or three laws do you think we
should have?

ISSUE #5: What about cars?  Should they be allowed?  Should we spend money
on roads?  What should the speed limit be?

ISSUE #6 We still don’t have a hospital.  Should we build one?  If so, do you have to pay to go there if you
are sick?
